Testimonials

In 2019, we took our dog Skylar, a part border-collie/mix rescue to see Dr. Brett Darrow at the recommendation of our regular vet to assess problems she was having with back leg. Dr. Darrow and his staff did a complete exam, including X-rays to determine any problems and the appropriate course of treatment.

During the initial exam and following the X-rays, Dr. Darrow returned to the examination room to review his findings and provide us with his assessment of her condition. Throughout the initial examination and follow-up, not only was Dr. Darrow’s knowledge and expertise overwhelmingly evident, but also his genuine compassion and gentle caring approach for Skylar’s well-being. Dr. Darrow’s professionalism and empathy also showed as he discussed Skylar’s condition with us, making sure we completely understood exactly what he would propose moving forward.

After consultation with Dr. Darrow, we were advised and agreed that she would benefit from surgery on her left knee to provide additional support. The procedure is called a TPLO.

Prior to the surgery, Dr. Darrow explained the entire procedure to us, what outcomes we could expect, and the rehabilitation process that would follow the surgery to obtain the best outcome.

After surgery, Skylar came home to begin the lengthy 3-4 month rehab with the first 6 weeks confined to a small area and 24-7 observation and attention by us. During this entire time, Dr. Darrow and his staff provided continued support and encouragement. Due to Dr. Darrow’s expertise and competence, the surgery was a complete success.

After several post-operative visits with Dr. Darrow he explained that there was a 50/50 chance that at some point Skylar’s other knee may need the same operation. Despite us trying to manage Skylar’s condition as best we could, in 2025, she showed similar signs in her right leg.

We immediately contacted Dr. Darrow’s office, and he saw Skylar the next morning. His exam revealed she would need a TPLO performed on her right knee. Amazingly enough, he did not want to wait and performed the surgery that very day. A testament to his concern and quick action to address Skylar’s immediate needs.

Skylar surgery went as expected and she has been home rehabbing starting her 6th week, still isolated with 24-7 care.

Again, throughout the second surgery we continued to get personal phone calls and emails from Dr. Darrow, showing his professional and personal concern for Skylar’s progress and overall health.

In closing, for anyone needing a highly qualified, competent and caring vet to take care of your furry loved ones, I can confidently and unequivocally recommend Dr. Brett Darrow. Seeing him, you will find, as we did, that his knowledge, approach, and demeanor will far exceed your expectations. Dr. Darrow’s professional knowledge, experience and expertise is beyond reproach.

Thank you Dr. Darrow and your caring staff for providing us with the same loving care we have for our Skylar.

This letter is to document the positive experiences I've personally had with Dr, Brett Darrow on not one, but three separate occasions.

I am the owner of two 8-year-old white Labrador Retrievers. In 2022, Prissy was diagnosed with having a torn ACL in her right rear leg. Dr. Darrow operated on her to make the repair in February of that year and after 3-month recovery period, she was back to being herself, a very happy, active dog. Dr. Darrow indicated she would be fine, and her knee was better than new, however, in a lot of dogs once one is repaired, the other has a high probability of tearing within 2-3 years.

In 2023, I took Faith to see Dr. Darrow for a limp in her front left leg. He quickly diagnosed the problem was in the right leg/right shoulder and not the left. After an MRI, he determined the issue to be arthritis and that there wasn't anything he could do surgically to help her but to putting her on joint supplements would be the best course of action at the time. And this diagnosis was reached by a doctor who specializes in doing surgery, definitely showing his etiquette, integrity and trustworthiness.

Then in fall of 2024, Prissy developed a limp with her back left leg. I immediately contacted Dr. Darrow again, due to my trust and faith in him, to have him evaluate her problem. As predicted, she also had torn her ACL and surgery was again recommended. Dr. Darrow performed her surgery on October 14th and once again, after her 3-month recovery and rehabilitation period, I am very happy that she is absolutely 100 % again with no limping or pain and is back once again, to being her happy, active self again.

So, in conclusion, I would absolutely recommend Dr, Darrow for any upcoming evaluations or examinations of your dog's pending issues or problems. He not only is very explanatory, taking whatever time you need as an owner, to understand the suggested treatment and is quick to respond to any questions or concerns you may have along the way.

Finally, Dr. Darrow is friendly and kind to not only to the owners, but more importantly, kind, compassionate, caring and friendly to all his patients - our dogs !!!

Dr. Darrow has helped Boykin Spaniel Rescue give numerous foster dogs as second chance at living normal, active lives after the general practice vets dealing with these dogs had recommended euthanasia as “no hope” cases. Dr Darrow has treated such conditions as severely luxating patellae with torsion of the femurs, hip toggling for a young puppy that had been struck by a car, and most recently, a cleft forelimb birth defect. His research into the optimal approach—with options for more conservative treatments too—and his thoughtful consultations with us have given us confidence that we understand all the pros and cons before making care decisions. We are happy to have him on our rescue’s Veterinary Speciality Advisory Panel, and he has always taken the time to talk about cases with our foster dogs in other parts of the country where having him treat them is not practical. We just wish we had more Dr. Darrows across the country!
